Byllesby Dryland Derby and Weight Pull 2025

The Byllesby Dryland Derby is over, thanks to all the hardworking racers, sponsors, volunteers and spectators who made this event a success. Check out the race results and stay tuned for photos!

Join us the morning of October 18th and 19, 2025 for our fourth annual Minnesota dryland sprint race featuring carts, bikes, scooters and canicross followed by an afternoon of competitive weight pull.

Come join us at Lake Byllesby Regional Park. Located 35 minutes south of St Paul, Lake Byllesby is nestled in the scenic Cannon River Valley. Lake Byllesby Regional Park is open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. with free parking.

All classes will be timed, single-start unless otherwise specified. All race entries must be received via TCDPS website. No phone, email, social media, or fax entries will be accepted.

*recreational class is designed to encourage participation without the pressure or costs associated with the more competitive professional classes. It gives teams a chance to get on the course and enjoy the experience without going head-to-head with seasoned veterans. The recreational class has a lower entry fee to make it accessible to more people, especially newcomers or hobbyists. Unlike the competitive classes that offer a cash payouts based on placement, the recreational classes offer no monetary rewards. Winners will still receive awards.

Registered Northern Breeds

Got a team of registered Siberians, Malamutes, or Samoyeds? Teams composed of these breeds will be separated into a separate Registered Northern Breed Class.


Eligibility

  • All breeds and mixes are eligible.
  • Dogs must be at least 18 months of age, however it is important to ensure your dog is appropriately conditioned to the mileage and trail conditions.
  • Dogs may not be pregnant or nursing.
  • Dogs must be free of disease and injury and cannot be on any performance enhancing drugs.
  • Only dogs who participate on Saturday are eligible to participate on Sunday. You may drop or remove a dog from a team as long as your team still meets minimum size requirements.

  • Twin Cities Dog Powered Sports encourages all interested in learning about this awesome sport to come out and try it! We love our Novice Teams and want everyone to be successful.
  • The first class will start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday (day 1) and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday (day 2). The class order is as follows: 6 Dog Rig, 4 Dog Rig, 2 Dog Bikejor,  1 Dog Bikejor, 2 Dog Scooter, 1 Dog Scooter,  Junior Wheeled Classes (Rig, Bikejor, Scooter), Canicross (Men’s, Women’s, Junior)

Racer’s Meeting

All racers must attend the racer’s meeting prior to their racing. The racer’s meetings will start at 8:00 AM on Saturday, October 18th. At this time, the Race Marshall will review procedures and give new racers a time for questions. This meeting is mandatory for all racers, unless cleared in writing by race officials prior to meeting.


IFSS DID

Byllesby Dryland Derby is now officially IFSS-accredited as part of the USFSS World Cup Race Series! This accreditation means that Byllesby racers who are USFSS members with a DID number can earn World Cup points toward international rankings and the IFSS World Championships.

USFSS membership and a DID number is not required to race.


ISDRA

We are proud to announce that the Byllesby Dryland Derby is now ISDRA sanctioned. This recognition by the International Sled Dog Racing Association (ISDRA) affirms our commitment to upholding the highest standards of race organization, safety, and sportsmanship. We look forward to welcoming competitors to this elevated level of competition and continuing to grow the sport together. After the race, we encourage all racers to complete the ISDRA Driver Report Form linked below.

ISDRA membership is not required to race.


Trail Information:

Trail surface is grass throughout. It is relatively flat with wide, sweeping turns and minimal hills. The distance is 2.3 miles for all classes.

We’re looking for volunteers. If you’re interested in being part of this awesome event, there are plenty of opportunities and no experience is necessary. This event wouldn’t be possible without you!

Venue/Weather

This will an outdoor event. Participants, volunteers and spectators should anticipate exposure to the elements. Dress appropriately and anticipate unexpected conditions. Portable toilets will be available on site. Dogs must remain on leash throughout the event and participants are encouraged to bring crates or tethers for their dogs. This is a public venue, we ask that participants be particularly mindful that we are behaving in a manner that reflects well on dog powered sports.

We will compete rain or shine at the Race Marshall’s discretion. Delays will be implemented as needed for storms or severe weather. We will not compete if temperatures at the venue exceed 70 degrees. Any updates will be communicated via the TCDPS Facebook and Instagram pages and this website’s news.

In the event that the race is cancelled, registration fees will be refunded minus Square’s processing fee. No changes to registration will occur after registration closes.


Additional Notes

All competitors are expected to follow event rules. Failure to follow the rules will result in a dismissal from the event.

Excessive corrections are grounds for disqualification at the judges discretion. If a racer is reported for any abusive/harsh treatment, that handler and all of their dogs will be DQ’d from the event.

Continuing to race a dog that is too fatigued is in direct violation of TCDPS’s animal welfare policy which all racers in agree to abide by.

Reactive Dog Policy: TCDPS strives to be accommodating to all teams who want to participate in this sport, which includes our ~spicy~ friends. If your dog is reactive, please discuss accommodations with the Chief Judge. Please be respectful of every dog’s space! Dogs must be able to pass other dogs safely to race.

It’s important for participants to park in the same location both days of the race. This helps reduce transmissions of infections or parasites between kennels. Make sure to thoroughly clean your area each day. Marking your parking spot after the first day is encouraged.


The campgrounds will be closed to regular campers for the season but Dakota County invites racers and volunteers to utilize the campground for parking. Please make sure to follow the parking lot signs and watch for the parking lot attendants. If you are traveling with a trailer, dog box or truck with a dog bed please send us a message directly at info@tcdps.org

Spectators are asked to park in the lot on the southeast corner of Gerlach Way and Echo Point Road. There will be very limited handicap parking available at the North Trailhead. Human spectators are welcome, but please keep your pets at home. Parking is free.


Equipment

Helmets are required for all wheeled classes (rig, bicycle, and scooter). Muzzles or any collar that can be hooked as a full choke are prohibited.

Awards

All participants who have won awards must be present at the designated awards ceremony to receive his/her awards. If the winner cannot be present, it is the award winner’s responsibility to designate a person to pick up award(s) and to notify the race organizer that a substitution is being made. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in the monies not being awarded. Monies will go back into the general fund and will be added to the club’s contribution the following year.

Dog Friendly Lodging:

Hotel accommodations are available in the towns of Zumbrota, Welch, Cannon Falls, and Northfield.  This event is 35 minutes south of St Paul which has numerous hotel accommodations. 

Byllesby Regional Park’s campgrounds will be closed for the season and participants are not allowed to camp overnight at the race site. Below is a list of dog friendly lodging in the area.
